Civil Rights/Voting Rights Rally Good Trouble Lives On Description:
On Thursday, July 17, community members from Malden, Melrose, Wakefield, and beyond will join Americans at hundreds of events nationwide to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis and fight back against the growing attacks on our civil and human rights. The local action in Malden is part of Good Trouble Lives On — a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and inspired by John Lewis’ call to make “good trouble, necessary trouble.” Participants will gather to demand an end to the authoritarian attacks on our freedom to vote, protest, and organize — and to stand united against efforts to criminalize our communities, roll back our rights, and slash vital public programs.

All are invited to gather at the intersection of Commercial St and Centre St in Malden (opposite the Malden Center T station) followed by a short march and rally. Attendees will hear powerful stories shared by speakers and singers. ASL Interpreters will help make the program accessible to everyone.

This Good Trouble Lives On event will feature a family-friendly atmosphere including marching, chanting, and singing. Bring signs, musical instruments, and voices. All pro-democracy participants are welcome!

A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to the event.

This event is organized and co-sponsored by Indivisible in Melrose/Wakefield Plus, Malden Community Coalition and Mobilize Melrose.
